Mike Lockwood, Erik Gilling, Jeff Brown You have always been able to connect an Android device to your computer, but until now there was no way for Android applications to interact with other hardware via USB. In this talk we cover new support in Android 3.1 for USB input devices, as well as new APIs for applications to communicate with peripherals via USB. The APIs support both Android powered devices that act as a conventional USB host, and non-host Android devices that communicates with a new class of USB hosts known as "Android USB Accessories". Cool hardware is involved.

HDMI Extender - Long Distance High Speed Relaying of HD Signals

HDMI Extender - Long Distance High Speed Relaying of HD Signals

Hdmi

High Resolution high definition video can be transferred over large distances using a HDMI Extender. Increased distance is achieved by securing connections between the receiving and transmitting unit either through Cat5 cables or fiber optic cables. While the transmitter is connected to the HDMI source, the receiver is connected to the monitor. Once the connections are in place, the device is ready to be used. Working on simple plug and play functionality, it does not require any additional software or drivers in order to be operational. Since category cables are used for connections, it reduces clutter caused by bulky VGA cables and also eliminates the distance limitation imposed by HDMI cables.

In order to make a long distance connection work, the HDMI Fiber Optic Extender uses a standard SC duplex multimode fiber optic extender cable. DDC and CEC signal line is transmitted by copper line (RJ45 connector). It provides full support for all HD resolutions up to 1600p including 1080i, 1080p, 1440p, HDCP, multi channel audio, CEC and IR remote control. Control over this unit is exercised using IR Remote control.

Compatible with HDMI standard 1.3, these units are HDCP compliant. Available in lengths varying from 33feet up to 330 feet, these extenders are capable of supporting high quality video with resolutions up to 1080p and 1920 x 1200. It is available in many port sizes and with optional stereo audio or RS232 control. Easy installation, plug and play functionality, compatibility with all major operating systems, regenerating high definition digital video and audio signals and removing signal noise are some of the key features of the HDMI Cable Extender. Due to all the above mentioned features, this device finds its usage in show rooms, board rooms, trade shows, corporate presentations, conference and training facilities, remote monitoring facilities, airports, hospitals, hotels, home theater set ups and digital signage solutions.

The main factor contributing towards increased demand of these extenders is the ability to support HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) which is a standard used to protect copyrighted digital content and is essential to ensure a successful display of HDCP-compliant video. HDCP compliance is done by encrypting the video signal between the source device and the display. This feature ensures that the HDMI Extender provides crisp and clear HDMI signals.

Asus Eee Pad Tablet Vs iPad

Asus Eee Pad Tablet Vs iPad

Hdmi

One of the newest tablets to hit the market is the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, which is a state-of-the-art tablet PC with a unique feature-it can be transformed into a laptop when attached to a keyboard dock. Perhaps this is where Asus scores a point. The original iPad is no longer in production, as it has been discontinued after the release of the even more famous iPad 2.

Truth be told, many consumers still cling to the first ever iPad, a proud remembrance of owning such a popular gadget that many other people do not have. If the first iPad had to be compared with ASUS, how would it fair?

Software

The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer recently updated its OS to the Honeycomb 3.2, which is the latest from the Android platform. The iPad had iOS version 4.3.5, which is basically the same system running the iPad 2.

Processor

The ASUS Transformer has an amazing 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, which makes the gadget quite fast to use. The iPad has a 1GHz Apple A4, which is definitely not bad either.

Memory/ Storage

The ASUS Transformer has 1GB worth of RAM, with an internal storage of up to 16 GB or 32GB. It also houses a micro SD card slot to increase the memory storage. The iPad, on the other hand, has a lesser RAM with only 256MB, but the internal storage is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.

Display

The ASUS Transformer has 1280 x 800 pixels of resolution in its clear 10.1-inch multi-touch screen with a brilliant IPS panel display. The iPad has a 9.7-inch screen with 1024 x 768 pixels of resolution on a multi-touch and LED-backlit IPS LCD screen display.

Camera

The ASUS Transformer has a 1.2-megapixel camera on the front and a 5-megapixel camera on the rear. The iPad, unfortunately, does not have a single camera.

Connectivity

The ASUS Transformer has GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, with a mini HDMI port and two USB ports on the keyboard dock. The iPad also has Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS and Bluetooth connectivity, but it does not have HDMI or USB ports. However, separate USB adapters can be purchased.

Video Recording

The ASUS Transformer has an impressive 720 HD video recording capability, making videos very clear to view. The iPad, on the other hand, makes it impossible to record any videos with.

Portability

The ASUS Transformer has a measurement of 271 x 171 x 13mm and weighs 680 grams.

The iPad has dimensions of 42.8 x 189.7 x 13.4mm and weighed 680 grams for Wi-Fi connectivity only, and 730 grams for both Wi-Fi + 3G connectivity.

Battery Life

The ASUS Transformer has a battery life of up to 10 hours, but with a keyboard dock attached, battery life is increased up to 16 hours. The iPad only has 10 hours battery life.

Price

The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer is sold at 9 for the 16GB. The optional keyboard dock costs an additional 0. The iPad had a retail price of 9 for the Wi-Fi only version, and 9 for Wi-Fi + 3G version, which is a far cry from other tablet PCs of today.

The Verdict

Clearly, it shows that the original iPad is no match with the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer. In many aspects like camera, connectivity, portability, battery life and most especially price, Asus has managed to beat Apple from its former glory.

How to Improve the Performance of Your HDMI Cables

How to Improve the Performance of Your HDMI Cables

Hdmi

There are some useful guidelines to improve your HDMI cables performance.

Use signal boosters. Depending on quality, most HDMI wires lost their signal in roughly 10 to 50 feet. With these devices, power is enhanced making them to continue on remaining powerful even on long cable runs. There are, however, HDMI cables which run for 75 feet and have already a built-in signal booster inside the cable.

Use signal equalizers. This is another device which can maintain the signal's quality and strength even with longer cable runs. It can also be called a signal enhancer. Aside from enhancing the signal, it can also eliminate any superfluous noise disturbance. Losing the dynamics of the HD technology is not something to worry about as the device does not remove it.

Use signal extenders. It helps by extending the signal down the extent of the cable subsequent to receiving the signal.

Use signal restorers. They are minute gadgets where weak signals are re-harmonized to reach their HDMI quality to the fullest. It expands the distance to have the signal trek even for over a hundred feet.

Use fibre Optic Cable. This is the best but the most expensive alternative. Fibre optic cables are normally utilized after a maximum of 150 feet run length was attained. Likewise, HDMI cables can reach a maximum of 1,649 feet efficient run with its fibre optic.

The quality of the raw materials used dictates the maximum run length and efficiency of the cables. Thicker copper wires in twisted pairs are usually on the category of higher value cables, but spell add-on expense on the part of the consumer but still with no guarantee of efficiency. Even high quality HDMI cables strive to transmit better signals for more than a distance of 50 feet.

You still need to invest in other add-on devices to enhance the signal of your HDMI cable over long distance.

Sprint EVO 4G Hardware Review

Sprint EVO 4G Hardware Review On YouTube.

The Sprint EVO 4G is a large device. Compared to the HTC HD2, it's thicker, taller, and wider, plus it's over 20 grams heavier. It feels more like a tablet than it does a cell phone. That said, the screen, which is 4.3" and WVGA resolution, has fantastic clarity, and terrific color reproduction. In terms of ports, the HTC EVO 4G has a 3.5mm headphone jack, a micro HDMI port for video out, and a microUSB port for syncing and charging. On the front there is a 1.3MP camera which can be used to take self-portraits or do video calls with Qik, and on the back there is an 8MP camera which can take video in 720p.

Installing an HDMI Cord on Your System

Installing an HDMI Cord on Your System

Hdmi

HDMI cord or cables are used to convey high definition digital signals across all television, DVD players, audio systems, video gaming systems and more. The cord can carry maximum information than standard AV cables and other cables available in the market. The ability of this cable is familiar amongst millions of customers to deliver sharper and clear image to the screen and profound sound to ears.

To install a HDMI cord is no difficult than setting up any other kind of cable available in the market. The foremost step to consider is to find the right slot on your device and plug the cord in place. You are basically required to identify the rating on your device and also determine which if your components are HD compatible. After identification, simple instructions in the user guide tell you how the cable can be best installed and connected to any of your system.

For installation, the things advisable to own include television A/V receiver, DVD player, DVR box, cable box, Blu-ray player and multiple HDMI cables. The first step is to check at the back of your television set for a known HDMI cord connection. The narrow rectangular outlets are usually marked with an HDMI logo and may have one or more than one outlets. Having more than one outlet allows you to have more connections and increases your choice of connections with various technological devices.

The next step of installation is to check the A/V receiver on your home theater system, DVD player system or more. If your system has HDMI cord outlets for components such as DVD, Blu-ray player or cable), then you are provided the opportunity to course them all to the TV. Next you are required to check your cable or satellite box to decide which component is fully compatible to set up with your cord.

The fourth step is to insert one end of the HDMI cord into the port of your DVR or DVD player. For those having an A/V receiver, it is required for them to connect the cable to it or otherwise connect the other end to the outlet in your TV. You should then be able to determine which port is connected to operate and finally turn the TV on.

The last step of installation is to review the menu and set signals of which port contains the component you wish to watch and enjoy.

What Is HDMI and Where to Get an HDMI Cable?

What Is HDMI and Where to Get an HDMI Cable?

Hdmi

What does HDMI mean?

HDMI represents "High Definition Multimedia Interface", a standard designed by a few electronics brands. It is an audio/video protocol that is used to transfer digital data. Information is transmitted in the form of 1 and 0. The benefits of transmitting data in digital format is that the data losses due to interference could be minimized. When compared with analog interfaces including S-Video, electronic interfaces have way less signal loss.

Devices Supporting This Standard

Many modern-day multimedia electronic products support this standard. For example, most video gaming units e.g. Xbox 360 (the most recently released ones) and PS-3 have an output port that conveys signal in electronic form. Almost all new video players have this port too, including Blu-ray disc readers and set-top boxes. Some computers also have this interface so that the computer screen could be outputted in digital form to televisions.

How to Purchase

To link up two devices both having HDMI interfaces, a matching cable is needed. There are several types of connectors, the most typical one is the standard type but there are some types with different sizes and forms. For example, mini-HDMI is a lot smaller than HDMI. You ought to examine your appliances before buying a cable.

These cables may be readily found in many shops selling electronic equipment. If you want to shop on the internet and getting the item delivered to your house, you could purchase it from Amazon. These cables have different lengths. Find out the separation between your machines before hitting the buy button. I often allow for a bit longer length to prepare for unexpected problems. For instance, if the distance between two devices is 6 feet, you have to purchase a cable of 9 ft long. After all these cables are not very costly, it do not cost you too much to purchase something a bit longer.

Another matter to note is the plating on the connector. A typical plating material is 24K gold. Many people believe that this coating was applied to attract purchasers. No, they aren't. The truth is that ordinary connectors have lower level of resistance to rusting, by applying an additional covering we could increase the durability of the cable. Buying a gold-plated cable does not cost too much more, but may lengthen the life of the cable. Hence you are suggested to buy gold-plated cables.

If you buy the cable from internet stores, make sure you read the appraisals left by other consumers. These appraisals are really helpful since these people bought the cable and actually tested them. Their reviews may provide some concepts to you about the product. Particularly for very good or bad items, people really like leaving comments about them.

HDMI Cable Information

HDMI Cable Information

Hdmi

HDMI stands for high definition multimedia interface and is a type of digital/audio cable that provides a digital connection between audio/video systems such as DVD players, home theater systems, cable box, television monitors and more. HDMI cord and cables are available in various shapes and colors and seeks to transmit uncompressed data. Today, these cables are the efficient alternatives of radio frequency coaxial cable, composite video, S-video, D-terminal video and VGA.

The HDMI cord and cable types have created a stir in the electronic market of many countries with its first launch in 2003. More than eight fifty consumer electronic and PC companies have purchased the cables, making full use of its productive efficiency and reliability. This is because they support all enhanced and high definition TV, computer formats and MPEG streams available in the market. Another important feature of an HDMI cable is that it is also compatible with the backward forum, the Digital Visual Interface (DIV) used previously by maximum consumers.

The HDMI cables are specifically designed to increase picture and sound quality of all high quality digital systems. With the newer versions developed and released, the possible potentials of the cables are endless and profound. All versions include three types of connectors, with the standard Type A and Type C consisting of nineteen pins to support SD, ED and HDTV formats. Type B includes twenty nine pins and provides prolonged video resolution, such as the WQSXGA. There is also addition of two cables within the HDMI family such as category one cable and category two cables.

Furthermore, there are also a number of different versions of HDMI cables available in the market. All versions have unique features and specifications attached to them, with each one having the potential to carry maximum bandwidth signals. The signals are carried from the source to the digital systems such as television, computers, audio systems etc. Every version has the ability to increase and improve the audio and video quality of different systems you own at home.

For added information, there is also a variety of different brands of HDMI cables available out there in the market. These include the high-end Monster cables and lower-end surplus cable versions. Home entertainment stores and experts also make extra efforts to display live demos of how to make the most of your connections and cables. These demos not only help you set up your system, but also allow you assess the enhanced quality and difference never found before.
